The New York Giants may have to plan for life without running back Dante Miller for a while. Head coach Brian Daboll hinted at the issue on Monday, saying "it might be a situation" when asked about the player's status. Miller, who goes by the nickname "Turbo," has been trying to earn a spot on the 53-man roster, but any extended absence would seriously hurt those chances.
Miller has shown flashes of speed and quickness in training camp and preseason action. That burst is exactly why the Giants brought him in as an undrafted free agent. But the team already has a crowded backfield with Devin Singletary, Tyrone Tracy Jr., and Eric Gray all competing for carries. A player on the bubble cannot afford to miss valuable practice time, especially when every rep counts.
Daboll did not offer specifics on the injury or a timeline for return. He kept it vague, which often means the team is still evaluating the severity. If Miller lands on injured reserve, he would be out for at least four weeks. That would likely end his bid for the active roster, though a practice squad spot could still be possible.
The Giants have been high on Miller's potential since rookie minicamp. His straight-line speed is legit, and he has shown he can catch passes out of the backfield. But the NFL is a results business, and coaches need players they can count on week to week. Missing time now, especially with final cuts approaching, is a bad sign.
For Miller, the next few days are critical. If the injury is minor, he might get back on the field soon and prove he belongs. If not, the team will move on with other options. The clock is ticking, and "Turbo" may be running out of time.
