The New England Patriots' recent acquisition of veteran wide receiver A.J. Brown has sparked immediate speculation about the future of second-year pass catcher Kayshon Boutte. With the receiver room suddenly crowded, rumors have circulated that the team might look to move the former LSU standout before the season begins. Boutte, however, is not letting the noise distract him.
Speaking to reporters after practice, Boutte addressed the swirling trade rumors directly. "I'm here today," he said flatly. "I can't control what people say or what the front office decides. My job is to come in, work hard, and help this team win. That's all I'm focused on." The 22-year-old acknowledged the competition but insisted he welcomes the challenge. "Adding a guy like A.J. only makes us better. It pushes everyone to elevate their game."
Boutte, a sixth-round pick in 2023, had a quiet rookie season, catching just two passes for 19 yards before a season-ending ankle injury. The arrival of Brown, along with the presence of established targets like Kendrick Bourne and Demario Douglas, puts Boutte on the roster bubble. While his talent is undeniable, his path to consistent playing time has narrowed.
For now, Boutte is doing his best to block out the outside chatter. "I've been through a lot in my career," he said. "This is just another hurdle. I control what I can control." Whether that will be enough to keep him in New England remains to be seen, but the young receiver is making it clear he has no intention of leaving without a fight.
