The Dallas Cowboys are running out of patience with their 2024 rookie class. While the front office has historically given young players time to develop, the current group has yet to make a meaningful impact, and the clock is ticking. With the team pushing for a playoff spot, the margin for error has shrunk dramatically.
The biggest question marks surround the early-round picks. First-rounder Tyler Guyton has struggled with consistency at left tackle, showing flashes of power but getting beaten by speed rushers too often. Second-round pick Marshawn Kneeland, a defensive end, has been invisible in the rotation, failing to generate pressure when given snaps. Meanwhile, third-round receiver Ryan Flournoy has dropped key passes and struggled to separate from defensive backs.
The Cowboys coaching staff has tried to be patient, but the message is clear: perform now or get left behind. Veteran players are starting to take snaps away from the rookies, and the team cannot afford to let inexperience cost them games in a tight NFC East race.
What makes this situation more pressing is the team's salary cap situation. With expensive contracts on the books, Dallas needs its young, cheap talent to produce. If the 2024 class cannot step up, the Cowboys will be forced to spend in free agency next year, which is not a sustainable path.
The next few weeks will be a true test. If these rookies cannot find their footing, the 2024 draft class could be remembered as a missed opportunity rather than a foundation for the future.
