This request, which has become a yearly appeal, targets a practice where some programs drop lower-profile opponents from the schedule to keep their strength of schedule and win-loss record favorable for tournament selection.

The concern is that these cancellations hurt smaller programs that rely on revenue and exposure from playing bigger schools. When a power conference team cancels a midweek game against a mid-major, it can also disrupt that team's season planning and budget. The NCAA's message is clear: the integrity of the regular season matters, and manipulating the schedule to game the system undermines fair competition.
