The Washington Commanders made a major splash in the offseason by signing veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs to a three-year deal. The move instantly reshapes the team's offensive hierarchy and has significant ripple effects for fantasy football managers heading into the 2026 season.
For Jayden Daniels, this is a massive boost. The young quarterback now has a proven, high-volume target who can win at every level of the field. Diggs' presence should open up more intermediate routes and take some pressure off the deep game, giving Daniels a reliable safety valve he lacked last year. Expect his passing volume and touchdown upside to climb, solidifying him as a top-three fantasy quarterback.
The bigger question is what happens to Terry McLaurin. While some fear a target share collision, the reality is more nuanced. McLaurin has been the clear WR1, but defenses will no longer be able to roll coverage his way with Diggs commanding attention. This should lead to more favorable one-on-one matchups and potentially more explosive plays. McLaurin's floor stays solid, but his ceiling might actually rise. He remains a high-end WR2 with WR1 potential.
The real loser here is the rest of the pass-catching group. Luke McCaffrey and Dyami Brown lose most of their fantasy relevance, and the tight end position becomes even more of a dart throw. Diggs, when healthy, is still a target hog, and he will likely see 130-plus looks. That volume makes him a strong WR2 with upside, though his age and injury history keep him from being a surefire first-round pick.
Washington's offense just got a lot more dangerous. Daniels is the clear winner, McLaurin remains a reliable starter, and Diggs is a volatile but exciting addition. Draft accordingly.
