The Clarksville Parks and Recreation department is broadening its lineup of sports programs designed to be accessible to residents of every age and skill level. From adaptive leagues for individuals with disabilities to low-impact classes for seniors, the city aims to ensure that no one is left on the sidelines.
Recent additions include wheelchair basketball and a unified soccer league that pairs athletes with and without intellectual disabilities. For younger participants, the department offers beginner-friendly t-ball and flag football clinics that focus on fundamentals rather than competition. Adults can join co-ed volleyball, recreational softball, or walking basketball groups that emphasize fun and fitness over winning.
"We want everyone to feel welcome, whether they are trying a sport for the first time or returning after a long break," said a program coordinator. The department also provides equipment for those who do not have their own, and registration fees are kept low to remove financial barriers.
Seasonal offerings change throughout the year, with winter indoor pickleball and summer swim leagues already drawing strong interest. Officials note that participation has grown steadily since the inclusive initiatives were expanded two years ago. For anyone looking to stay active and connect with neighbors, Clarksville's parks and rec programs offer a place to play without pressure.
