The way people watch sports is undergoing a quiet revolution, driven by artificial intelligence. For decades, fans had little choice but to pay for expensive cable bundles or rigid streaming packages that locked them into a fixed schedule of games. Now, AI is beginning to break that model apart, offering a more personalised and flexible experience.
Instead of sitting through an entire three-hour broadcast, viewers can soon expect AI-powered platforms to curate highlight reels, key plays, and even custom camera angles tailored to their preferences. If a fan only wants to see a specific player's defensive moves or every goal from a single match, AI can stitch that together in real time. This moves away from the old "one size fits all" broadcast and toward a feed that feels like it was built just for you.
The technology also changes the business side. Sports leagues and broadcasters are experimenting with dynamic pricing and micro-transactions. Rather than paying for a full season, a viewer might pay a small fee to watch the final ten minutes of a close game, or to access a multi-angle replay of a controversial call. AI handles the logistics, tracking what fans watch and adjusting offers on the fly.
This shift is not without challenges. Some worry that hyper-personalisation could fragment the shared experience of watching a live game with millions of others. But for many, the trade-off is worth it. The era of paying for channels you never watch is fading, replaced by a system that lets you pay for exactly what you want, when you want it.
