OU to open 2027 football season at home against Utah State

Oklahoma announced on Tuesday that its 2027 football campaign will begin at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, hosting Utah State on Saturday, Aug. 28. The game marks the first scheduled meeting between the two programs and gives the Sooners a non-conference opener against a Mountain West opponent.

The matchup extends OU's practice of opening seasons with a home game, a trend the program has leaned into under head coach Brent Venables. The Sooners have not started a season on the road since 2019, when they traveled to Houston. The 2027 opener will be the third straight year Oklahoma begins its schedule in Norman, following the 2025 and 2026 home openers already on the books.

Utah State finished the 2024 season with a 4-8 record under first-year head coach Nate Dreiling, who took over after Blake Anderson was dismissed in the summer. The Aggies have struggled to find consistency in recent years but have produced NFL talent, including quarterback Jordan Love, now with the Green Bay Packers.

Oklahoma's 2027 schedule also includes a home date with Michigan on Sept. 11 and a road trip to Alabama on Sept. 18, making the Utah State game a critical early tune-up before a demanding stretch. The Sooners will enter the 2027 season in their third year as members of the Southeastern Conference, having joined in 2024.

Ticket information and game times for the 2027 opener will be released closer to the season. The contest is one of three non-conference games for OU that year, with the other two yet to be finalized.
