Jays Beat Marlins, 2-1

Jays Beat Marlins, 2-1

The Toronto Blue Jays offense took a day off again, but it did not cost them this time. One night after a rare outburst of runs, the bats went quiet. However, a strong start from Kevin Gausman and some shaky baserunning by the Miami Marlins kept the damage to a minimum.

Gausman worked through traffic all night. The Marlins collected 11 hits against him and the bullpen, but they could only push one run across the plate. Miami shot itself in the foot on the bases several times, killing potential rallies with ill-advised attempts to take extra bases. The Blue Jays defense also turned a couple of key double plays to escape jams.

Toronto managed just enough offense to get the win. A couple of timely hits and a sacrifice fly gave the Jays a 2-1 lead that the bullpen made stand up. The relief corps came in and shut the door, stranding the tying run on base in the final innings.

The victory pulls the Blue Jays back to within striking distance in the standings. They will look to get the offense going again in the next game of the series.
