Three Reasons the Raiders Defense Will Be Better in 2026

Three Reasons the Raiders Defense Will Be Better in 2026

The Las Vegas Raiders defense has been a weak spot for years, but 2026 might finally be the season things turn around. Here are three key reasons for optimism.

First, the defensive line has added real depth. After investing early draft picks and signing a veteran run-stuffer in free agency, the Raiders now have a rotation that can pressure quarterbacks without wearing down by the fourth quarter. Maxx Crosby remains the anchor, but he will no longer face constant double teams. The interior push should also improve, forcing quarterbacks into hurried throws.

Second, the secondary is younger and faster. Last season, the Raiders got burned repeatedly by deep passes and missed assignments. In 2026, the team has moved on from aging cornerbacks and brought in two rookies with elite speed. The safety position also looks more stable, with a returning starter who finally understands the scheme. This group should allow the front seven more time to get home.

Third, the coaching staff has made adjustments. The defensive coordinator has simplified the playbook and emphasized fundamentals during training camp. Players have reported better communication and fewer blown coverages. The Raiders also added a new linebackers coach who specializes in stopping the run, which was a glaring weakness in 2025.

If these three areas hold up, the Raiders defense could jump from the bottom of the league to a respectable middle-tier unit. That might be enough to keep the team in playoff contention.
